Operations Manager

Position Summary: The operations Manager holds overall responsibility for the company operations ensuring the organisation runs smoothly and efficiently. The position manages all operations with the exclusion of Finance, Sales and HR. The Operations Manager is a highly visible position for ensuring the uninterrupted and timely flow of both internal and external customers product. The scope of this position encompasses supporting, directing, and managing all day-to-day operational activities within the business. The Operations leader is responsible to make the business, and the people working much happier.

The role will manage the implementation of the business guidelines and strategies, working with other department heads to ensure everything runs smoothly and in accordance with any guidelines. Specific duties will vary depending on the type of business the operations manager works in, and not limited to the following


  • Review and act daily on critical need items for assigned responsibilities
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline business processes and systems
  • Translating the company’s strategic plans into defined operational
  • Restructuring business activities to increase speed and
  • Working alongside other members of the business on business
  • Establishing a culture of continuous business
  • Overhauling customer service activities and implementing minimum standards across all contact with customers.
  • All aspects of Day to day management of the operations
  • Implementing lean management procedures to minimise stock holding and free up working
  • Minimising operation expenditure within the business wherever
  • Meet defined performance goals for cost savings, minimal delays to operations, and strict compliance with laws
  • Own and manage the full procurement function
  • Establish, track, and expedite inbound and outbound shipments
  • Ensure compliance with any and all regulations regarding freight of goods
  • Manage carrier service quality metrics and related corrective actions
  • Review freight reports (bonded warehouses) to ensure accuracy, identify cost savings opportunities, and maximise delivery performance
  • Stay current with all industry trends, costs, and best practices to ensure that the company is following a “Best in Class” model
  • Provide training and materials, implementing best practices, facilitating change, and assuming ownership of the full supply chain, from purchase order to cycle
  • Develop and manage agents
  • Partner with key third party providers to drive cost reduction, time reduction, quality of product and documentation

Job Description

  • Ensure timely procurement of subcontracting services and raw material for manufacturing (i.e Sourcing, negotiating pricing, setting up of SLA’s with preferred providers, expediting of goods)
  • Oversee the planned maintenance of vehicles, machinery and tooling
  • Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Create, manage and achieve the overall logistics and customer service department budgets
  • Ensure ERP system information is updated through timeous processing to enable accurate real time reporting


People Management

  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, adding value and continuous improvements
  • Set departmental objectives/KPI’s, review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
  • Ensure that all functions under supervision operate in accordance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure safety and wellbeing of staff and

Main Candidate Criteria

  • Experience in batch/bespoke manufacturing environment (not just an assembly line)
  • Strong experience rolling out Lean and Continuous Improvement (CI) programs
  • Change management experience
  • Strong project management skills and leadership qualities
  • Ability to hit the ground running
  • Experience with a similar scale/complexity of operations
  • Honest and realistic approach to staff capabilities and a pragmatic approach in addressing
  • Ability to understand, compile and interpret complex
  • Strong demonstrable track record of driving performance
  • Influence stakeholders to ‘let go of the past’ and embrace change
  • A relevant degree qualification or work experience
  • Great communicator at all levels

Core skills for the position

  • Prior Senior Management experience in Operations at a similar business
  • Communication – both verbally and electronically
  • Prior leadership in S&Ops process
  • Preference to Flow control industry experience
  • Prior experience in capacity Planning and Analysis – ERP, MRP
  • Prior experience in Inventory Control,
  • Transportation/logistics experience


  • 10 + years’ – experience in Planning and
  • 10+ years’ – experience in supply chain
  • 10 + years’ Experience with ERP programs
  • Ability to lead, train and mentor employees on a personal level
  • Preferred – bachelor’s degree in related field or experience


Performance Standards: Measurements in the area of Trade sales, cost savings, procurement, inventory management and support of key performance indicators and process control.
